Favorite dishes of Burma

The Burmese cooking style has some influences from China, Thailand, and India. It is “richer than Chinese, but not as spicy as Thai, or Indian food” (2004). A typical meal might consist of a soup, salad, and a fish or other meat dish.
Following are some favorites of the Burmese people.

A favorite breakfast and lunch dish is MonHinGa a soup with fish and rice noodles. This dish is also considered the “national dish” (2004). Another favorite is kaukswe, a chicken and noodle dish cooked in coconut milk.

Monhingar (Fish soup & vermicelli)

Mohingar is considered the national dish and is a favorite from breakfast through dinner. It is found most places; restaurants, markets, and local sellers who travel the streets pushing a small cart

Ohnno Kaukswe (Coconut Noodle)

This is a mixture of coconut and chicken cooked together, then served with noodles. It is sprinkled with some onion, chilli powder, lemon juice and is then ready to eat. Sometimes, Betway, a bean mixture is added to give it a better taste.

Akyaw (A variety of fried vegetable)

A common snack for the local Myanmar people is akyaw, a variety of fried vegetables. It is usually sold in the early morning and in the evening and can be easily found on the street. It includes a variety of fried vegetables. First, the vegetables are cleaned, then pasted with rice mixture and fried. These snacks are a bit greasy, but considered very delicious.

Savory Chicken Salad or athoke

Myanmar "athoke" is considered to be salad. However, it is more diverse than what is generally thought of as salad. There are fruit salads, the lettuce salad, the fish salad, the meat salad, the many kinds of noodle salad, and to top it all, there is the "rice hand-mixed salad", popular, readily available, easily made at home and enjoyed by the people of Burma as well as tourists. The ingredients of the rice hand-mixed salad are steamed rice, oil cooked with a little chili, glass noodles, egg noodles, boiled potatoes, fried bean curd, shredded papaya, fried shredded garlic, roasted pea powder, dried shrimp powder, tamarind liquor, fish sauce, all thoroughly mixed, not tossed.
